Pre-Treatment of Waste Water

Industrial and manufacturing processes may require pre-treatment of waste water if limits of BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) are exceeded. The limits of these are 250 parts per million by weight. Suspended solids are limited by weight to 275 parts per million.

Prohibited Materials

Prohibited materials in the sanitary sewer system include:

  • Benzene
  • Gasoline
  • Naphtha
  • Fuel oil and other flammable or explosive liquids
  • Toxic or poisonous solids, liquids, or gases
  • Waters and wastes with a PH lower than 5.5

Prohibited Solids

Prohibited solids in the sanitary sewer system include:

  • Trash
  • Diapers
  • Towels
  • Wood
  • Plastics
  • Garbage
  • Whole blood
  • Paper
  • Cups
  • Milk containers
